Bee Stock

Queen Bees - We raise our queen bees in Manitoba for use in our own apiary, and for sale to other beekeepers in Manitoba and elsewhere. Our queens are typically available from mid-June onwards to the end of the season.

Queens are selected on the basis of:

  • Over-Wintering Capabilities

  • Honey Production

  • Overall Colony Temperament

  • Absence of Spring Dysentery

  • Spring Strength and Spring Build-Up

  • Varroa Tolerance

In an effort to maintain genetic diversity and to help improve our stock, we continuously acquire queens from other sources to evaluate and test. If the queens meet our selection criteria, they are incorporated into our breeding program, and we offer their offspring for sale. We have worked with the current lines for a number of years, and find them highly suited to honey production in Manitoba. The queens we have for sale currently have their origin from a variety of different maternal lines. We have no control over the drone population in our area as there are a number of ther beekeepers nearby.

The price for all queens this year (2024 season) is $40 per queen.

Queen Cells - During the queen-rearing season, we sometimes have surplus queen cells for sale. The queen cells are from our documented lines, and maternal parentage can be verified. We sell our surplus queen cells for $10 each.

Four-Frame Over-Wintered Nucs - We offer a limited number of four-frame nucs in Spring. The nucs have been over-wintered, and contain our own marked queens from the previous year. Our over-wintered nucs typically come through the winter full of bees, and are quick to build-up to full hives and produce sufficient honey crops. Nucs will be in four frame configuration; usually three frames of brood, and one frame of pollen / feed. Boxes are not included. Nucs are typically available mid-May to end of May and priced at $250.

To reserve nucs for the spring season, please proceed to pay the $30 non-refundable deposit for each nuc. This can be done by accessing the button below, indicating how many nucs you wish to reserve, and then proceeding to pay with PayPal or a credit card. Once we receive your payment, your name will be added to the order list. We will then contact you closer to spring time with a confirmation, once we know the availablity numbers. The balance of the payment is due when the nucs are picked up.

Four-Frame Summer Nucs - We offer a limited amount of four-frame nucs in Summer. The nucs are made up once we have the first queens of the year. The summer nucs will have a fresh laying queen with three frames containing brood and one frame of pollen/honey. Nucs are typically available in the first week of July. In a normal year, the nucs will build up and produce surplus honey by the end of the year. With proper care, the nucs will be strong enough to make it through the winter. The summer nucs are priced at $250.
